Our GA DUI Risk Reduction Program is certified by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) DUI Intervention Program. It includes the initial education component (also known as DUI School), clinical evaluation, and substance abuse/addiction treatment if determined to be necessary by the clinical evaluator. Individuals who have been convicted of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) will be required to complete the following:
1) Best Choice DUI School - This program consists of a 3-day, 20-hour intervention course for individuals seeking reinstatement of driving privileges that have been suspended or revoked due to certain alcohol and drug violations. This includes DUI and the violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act. This program is also sought out by individuals charged with or convicted of other offenses for which they are mandated by a court to complete. The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has set the cost at $360.00 for all schools in the state, and this cost includes the pre-course assessment and the intervention.
2) Clinical Evaluation – Following completion of DUI School, the individual is required by the state of Georgia to participate in a clinical evaluation. VERY IMPORTANT: For persons seeking to reinstate a Georgia Drivers License, the clinical evaluation MUST be conducted by a provider approved by the Georgia DUI Intervention Program. To schedule a Clinical Evaluation by an approved provider at our clinic, call 706-884-5050.
Treatment for DUI First Offenders, Multiple DUI Offenders, and DUI Habitual Violators – After completing the clinical evaluation, the state of Georgia requires the individual to follow through with the treatment recommendations made by the evaluator. Not all persons evaluated are recommended to participate in treatment. However, if treatment is recommended, the evaluator can select from a wide range of services with lower to higher degrees of intensity (e.g., outpatient, intensive outpatient, inpatient, intensive inpatient, etc.) and duration (length of time for the intervention, such as a few weeks, several months, or as much as a year, etc.). Counseling and Psychology Services of LaGrange, Inc. is a State-Certified Provider and has over 15 years experience providing the brief interventions and standard outpatient treatment most commonly recommended by clinical evaluators. Such interventions typically include, but are not limited to, group counseling and individual counseling, and treatment may range from 4 weeks up to 52 weeks. However, we are not able to provide any level of inpatient services or emergency services.
